Process description:
Digital Line Graph (DLG) DFIRM data files for Leon County, Florida imported into Arc/Info by Jim Robeson using
DLGARC command. Individual 1:24,000 quadrangle sheets then joined into single coverage using MAPJOIN. Original data in UTM projection, NAD27 datum. Reprojected to State Plane, Florida North zone, NAD83 - HPGN datum.
Modifications to Data Layer:
1. Original DLG Major and Minor code fields are preserved in this coverage. To ease identification of Flood Zones, A, AE, X and flood ways, fields ZONE and FLOODWAY added to firm-flood coverage. The following steps were followed by Jay Johnson, September 1999 to identify these areas:

2. Compared the imported DLG data on a panel by panel basis against the official FIRM hardcopy maps to check for geometry and/or attribute errors. No geometry errors detected but several attribution errors were found. These errors were corrected in the following steps:

4. Creation of a new field for firmflood arc coverage.
In August 2001, the elevation field was created and calculated equal to minor2. Elevation values were verified using the hard copy 1997 FIRM maps.

5. Creation of "upelev" (upstream elevation) and "dnelev" (downstream elevation) attributes for firmflood polygon
coverage. This applies to the "AE" zone.
In August 2001, the upstream elevation (upelev) was determined by reviewing the 1997 FIRM maps. The upstream elevation item was attributed as the highest arc elevation (from firmflood arc coverage). Likewise, "dnelev" (downstream elevation) was determined, but using the lowest arc elevation. This data was proofed against the hardcopy 1997 FIRM maps; if a discrepancy was noted, the item was attributed as "-99999."

Digital FIRM data primarily intended to assist in the identification of risk zones and Special Flood Hazard (Areas
(SFHAs) shown on the hardcopy Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). Users should assess the horizontal positional accuracy of DFIRMs with regard to the selected base map source and the requirements of the application (Source: Intended Use and Positional Accuracy sections in DFIRM metadata provided with original DLG DFIRM data files).
