Severe and Significant grades used for environmental regulation of development by the City and County Growth Management departments.

Purpose:
Grade was created to provide City of Tallahassee & Leon County departments with slope grade data for planning related purposes. The data is meant to be used as a guide and not to take the place of a land survey by a licensed surveyor.

Process description:
A LIDAR Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was generated based upon a 2012 flyover of the entire Leon County. In that time, there have been updated to the existing LiDAR datasets & DEM in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The DEM is based off of classified LIDAR ground points, breaklines, and the derived Triangular Irregular Netowrk (TIN). The DEM has a 5 ft grid structure, and a resampled 20 ft grid structure. The 5 ft resolution raster DEM was resampled to 20 ft. A percentrise slope surface was derived from the 20 ft resolution DEM, based upon percentage. A conditional map algebra statment was applied to the slope surface to produce a 20 ft resolution grid representing the severe and significant grades. A grid-code of 1 represents significant grades (>= 10% <= 20%). A grid-code of 2 represents severe grades (> 20%). The raster version of the grade data was converted to a double precision Raster Dataset and then converted to a shapefile. Area in square feet was attributed to the polygon features and features < 2000 sq feet were deleted as uncessary.
