The HUBZone Program is a Federal program that is designed to provide businesses located within qualified areas the opportunity to apply for federal contract set-asides. The Federal government mandates that each federal agency set aside up to 3% of all contracts for businesses located within HUBZone areas. The boundaries of the Tallahassee HUBZone are determined by the Federal government using low income and minority information from the 1990 Census, and are based on Census Tract boundaries. A business located within the HUBZone wishing to apply for a contract set-aside must apply to the Federal government through the US Small Business Administration website. The City of Tallahassee and Leon County have no involvement in the award of such contracts, but rather serve only to publicize the HUBZone program and boundary area.
